A Prelude to Austin

Last night I went to see 3 bands, STEVE CONTE AND THE CRAZY TRUTH, THE CRINGE, and THE ORION EXPERIENCE. The bands themselves were great and got the audience going -- they are bands to keep you eye on.The location, on the otherhand, was just palatable -- among other things it is next to a Police Station :( the perfect place for a club :(
The night started a bit late with Steve Conte. The band is talented and Steve is incredibly animated and added a much needed bit of flair to the night. Next up was the Cringe. I have seen this band literally grow up; they are tight and refined, light years better than a year ago and billions of light years from the first time I saw them. They write their own songs and do a good job at it. Their energy was pretty high and it showed in their performance. They play good old rock and roll. Their set included a bunch of songs off their new album coming out the middle of next month. They even gave everyone who came a copy of the new album. This was their last show in NY before they head to Texas for SXSW with the other bands from last night's lineup. The nite closed down with the Orion Experience. This is my second time seeing them and they did great despite some sound issues. The crowd was dancing and doing the train. Great music and they kept the audience engaged. They performed two Valentine's Day songs (one on each side, good and bad). They were great and kept a smile on my face for both songs. They have a show on March 2nd at the Mercury Lounge so if you haven't seen them you should check them out.
These bands are all bands I would go see again.
